The Mad Monk of Russia
This is totally cheesy, and random. But. After high school, I went to Romania to work with orphans for about a month. While I was there I caught a commercial for a vodka named after Russia's famous mad monk, Rasputin. What I remember is that the song on the commercial was super catchy. What I didn't know then, is that the song was from the disco era. Boney M's "Rasputin" hit the charts at #2 in October, 1978 (you know what else hit the charts? ME. At #1-the first born). It was kept out of the #1 slot by "Summer Lovin' ".
That said, the chorus of the song has been stuck in my head for about 10 years. You know how bad it can be to have a snippet of a song stuck in your head. Ever had it stuck for 10 years? It wouldn't be so bad if I had known it was an actual song, and not a commercial jingle. Well, through the miracle of modern timewasters, I bring you "Rasputin". Enjoy it for all of its bubblegum, poppy, super goofy idiosyncracy. And. Here's a picture of the vodka label. Posted for no good reason.

and the curse of Rasputin claims another victim...
The easiest way to get this "disco" song out of your head is to think of Barry Manilow's "Copa Cabana" song. I guarantee it!
NOOOOOO, yet another song in my head. well, i'm off to the hottest spot north of Havana.
My next-door neighbor in the dorm has the song in her iTunes library! I was just watching the video and her roommate was in my room and recognized it. How weird. ra ra
