Someone Stole My Babies (not real babies)

I thought I had a couple of good ideas. The kind of ideas that could potentially make some money, if properly pursued. I had nursed and coddled these ideas. I had carried them along with me, and put them in my pocket. I had saved them for a rainy day, or even just for a day when I felt ready to commit to them. These ideas were slightly silly, but I thought that they were my friends. Little did I know that my ideas were not my own. After all, didn't someone else already say - there aren't any original thoughts. At least not in Hollywood.

Ecclesiastes 1:9

What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.

Well, I did some digging around on the Internet. As it turns out my ideas have already been claimed. In honor of the loss of my ideas I present them to you here.

Recessed transformer electrical outlet box with integral telephone line connection

Have you ever purchased a phone with a power cord. It looks cool right? Right up until you hang it on the wall and you have both a power cord, and a telephone cord spilling out down your wall. What if you could install your new phone on a recessed wall fixture that could contain both cords behind a wall plate, thereby giving you the clean look you wanted for your phone in the first place.

Well... don't bother me. Go talk to Thomas E. Cottone. He came up with it about 13 years ago.

Okay.

Idea 2.

Have you ever been driving down a dark road in the countryside and thought to yourself, "Hey. it sure would be easier to drive down this road if there were some lights."

What if you could see that dark road from far away? What if you could see the shape of the road before your headlights illuminated the reflectors?

Yeah well someone already thought of, designed, manufactured, and sold my idea.

Check it out here. It looks remarkably like what I had hoped to make. Oh well. Back to the drawing board. At least I have 8 uninterrupted hours a day to think of things that someone else has already made.

Since you lost two, I'll give you one. Trouble is, I don't know if this is mine to give. Still...

My idea was for a personal soundtrack system. Basically, it's a small MP3 player and a set of tiny speakers that can clip to each hip. You can load up the player with various theme music: imposing themes (like Darth Vader in the original Star Wars movie) or happy themes (the Indiana Jones music theme, for example) or anything else that suits the mood of your entrance into a room.

Basically - you get to choose the soundtrack for your life.

Silly? Yes. But marketable? Probably already done.

If I were a little more egotistical, I might have "Also Sprach Zarathustra" play on someone else's soundtrack player any time I came into their line of sight.

That's a good one! And exactly the sort of usage I was thinking of.

Lots of good tracks in the classical music catalogues, and most of it would be "fair use" - so you could avoid any copyright entanglements.
