Remember the Tooth! The Tooth!

This has been the first day of life without any of my original front tooth. I've got to say that it actually feels pretty good. That tooth was rotten to the root.

Having sat through an hour of grinding, cracking, and drilling around on my face, I am now the proud owner of a titanium screw which is mounted in my skull. Sitting through that was the hard part. I was given a plastic tray to wear during the day (at work) and night (while I sleep) which will keep my temporary fake tooth from falling out. In the words of my doctor, "This tooth is merely an illusion. Don't chew anything with it."

From here on out, and for the next four months, I get to stick to soft foods. Yay. Who doesn't love scrambled eggs, mac n cheese, and yogurt. While I don't mind these things, I had been getting used to eating a lot more vegetables. I think I'll have to get creative. So. Four months from now, I will be fitted with my permanent replacement crown. I can't wait to eat an apple, some french bread, and a steak.

That's what I've been up to.

Oh. I also went to class to learn about how to assess trauma to the body in an Industrial Ergonomics framework. If you need me to, I can watch you work at something, and tell you what will be hurting in a couple days.

An update on the curiously winding path that is my career. I was not able to take an upgrade to Troubleman this month. This is due to a lack of required time as a Journeyman. No harm, no foul. I may have that opportunity in about 6-9 months. On the horizon, I am looking forward to a chance to work as the electric journeyman on a Combo crew. I would get to go to school to learn about working on GAS LINES. Have I mentioned how I love to go to schools? I do. I'll keep you appraised of the situation.

Talk to you all later. I'm setting to head to the central coast of California for a few days, to be followed by a week in the Central Sierra Nevadas.

p.s. Yueh said what?

Dear Nephew,
I own a Kia Rio. You'll get much better mileage out of your bionic front tooth, believe me! And what an incredible smile you have to show it off with!
I just returned from Calif after Dad went home to be with Jesus. You probably saw this on Richard's blog. Please stop in to see Gma Nadine whenever you're in the area. Perhaps you're not aware of the frailty of her health at present. She's no longer able to jump in her car to come to Ross & Kathleen's but if she knows you're coming, AND if she writes it down on her calendar, AND if she remembers to look at her calendar, she would LOVE to see some of her grandkids and great-granddaughter again. She certainly perks up when she get visitors. Love to you all.

In regards to gma Nadine, James and I just visited her yesterday. We went up for a random visit and saw her for a few hours. She seemed well and extremely happy to see us. And also wants visitors! so give her a call whenever you go thru Fresno.

Hope you are having a GREAT time away from this Bakersfield-ness at the coast!

I don't know if there is a prize for correctly identifying it, but I'm going to guess that your blog title was borrowed from frank Herbert's "Dune."

Have a great trip!

Hey Megs & James! Thanks for visiting the grams. It means so much to her. Grandkids are like little lights in her day. Hope your summer is going well. Hugs to you both.
