What Matters

Tonight was one of those perfect nights out. We took the dog with us to town. We enjoyed some Mexican food at our local joint, Castillos. I had a pretty good taco tonight. After dinner we thought about walking Annie (our dog) at the Oakhurst Park. Not all it's cracked up to be, we passed on the park and chose to head up the hill to Wawona. It was wonderful. The air was cool and fragrant with the scent of Insence Cedar, Sugar Pines, and Bear Clover.

We walked part of the Meadow Loop Trail at Wawona, which cleverly enough, loops a large meadow. Being near dusk, we were treated to some wildlife sightings. I didn't have my camera, unfortunately, so I won't be able to show you how close we were to a couple of coyotes. Annie was very interested in getting closer to the coyotes. I was concerned that if she got too close, they might become defensive. I didn't think the odds were good for a 2 against 1 fight, so we chose to keep our distance. It was very exciting to be able to watch and wait as the coyotes walked off into the woods. It was even more fun, as we returned back down the trail and were treated to an encore appearance of the same two canines.

We finished up our walk with some ice cream at the Wawona General Store. Alltogether, it made for a perfect evening. One of the benefits of a hike at Wawona? The Meadow Loop is mostly flat. Easy hike. Come up and enjoy.
